Marieke ten Berge (b. 1973, The Hague) is a painter whose use of geometry and colour deny the supposed flatness of the canvas.
Her work explores the contradiction of a fully realised space… and sheds a light on the pretentious and tongue twisting nonsense of artspeak. In short, ten Berge’s art comes from the heart.
Ten Berge studied Fine Arts at the Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA), Rotterdam (from 1994–1997), followed by a career as a Set Decorator and Prop Maker for numerous large-scale film productions, such as Black Book (Zwarteboek), The Discovery of Heaven and Winter in Wartime (Oorlogswinter), and music events like Sensation, Defqon.1 and Mysteryland.
The work of Marieke ten Berge can be found in private collections throughout the world.
